Sada's Favorite Tree (photograph by Alice Breckling) Henry W. Coe State Park
Coe Park is the largest state park in northern California, with over 87,000 acres of wild open spaces.  The terrain of the park is rugged, varied, and beautiful, with lofty ridges and steep canyons. Once the home of Ohlone Indians, the park is now home to a fascinating variety of plants and animals, including the elusive mountain lion.

Within Coe Park are the headwaters of Coyote Creek, long stretches of the Pacheco and Orestimba creeks, and a 23,300-acre wilderness area.

The park is open year-round for hikers, mountain bikers, backpackers, equestrians, car campers, picnickers, photographers, and people who simply like to visit parks.

COE PARK PRESERVATION FUND

Henry W. Coe State Park was one of the seventy California State Parks scheduled for closure at the end of June 2012. Thanks to the efforts of the Coe Park Preservation Fund (CPPF) board members, an incredibly generous donor, and hundreds of individual donors, a signed agreement with the State of California is now in place to keep the park open through June of 2015. The CPPF is continuing its work to keep Coe Park open in perpetuity. Please visit www.coeparkfund.org and contribute to keeping Coe Park, our wilderness next door, open for everyone to enjoy. All donations, however small, are most welcome and will be tax exempt. The CPPF board will also be seeking contributions from major non-profit organizations and corporations.

Fall in Coe Park

Fall can be a wonderful time to visit Coe Park, with muted colors as the leaves of the oaks, sycamores and occasional big-leaf maples turn yellow and brown. The heat of summer is ending, now cooler mornings, and bright days with long afternoon shadows. There is a sense of anticipation for the coming rains as the long dry season comes to a close. The land reawakens and animals are busy preparing themselves for the cooler days ahead.
