Index of Plants at Coe Park by Scientific Names

This index is arranged alphabetically by scientific names.  If you know the scientific name of a plant (or at least its genus name), you can locate it in the index and link to its location in Coe Park's "official" vascular plant list, which is organized alphabetically by scientific family names.  If you know the common name of a plant, you can use your browser's "find" function to locate the plant in the index, and, if you like, you can link to the plant's location on the "official" list.

We considered developing an index sorted alphabetically by common names, but we decided not to for two reasons.  First, the list would be incredibly long (and incredibly slow to load and reload) if we made a separate listing for every common name (which we would have done).  And, second, you'd probably have a more difficult time finding a common name based on an alphabetical arrangement than you would searching for it with your "find" function.  For example, if you were to look for our California state flower in an alphabetical list under P for poppy, you wouldn't find it since the common name we use for the plant is California Poppy.

The scientific names with an asterisk are synonyms or misapplied names used in reference works predating The Jepson Manual.  If you select a name with an asterisk, you'll go to the listing for the plant in the "official" plant list.  That entry will show the currently acceptable scientific name for the plant and its scientific "synonym(s)."
