Henry W. Coe State Park

April Programs

Wednesday
April 2
10 a.m. April Fools Hike Through The Narrows  Don Savant will lead this strenuous 12-mile hike through the Narrows of the East Fork of the Coyote Creek.  Bring lunch, water, and wading shoes.  For more information, call the park at 408-779-2728 or contact Don at donsavant@yahoo.com.

April 5
10 a.m. Discovery Horse Ride  MAU (Dowdy Ranch Entrance). Reservations required.
10 a.m. Valley View Hike  Ranger John Verhoeven will take you on a 2.5 mile hiking loop starting at the Monument Trail. Bring snacks and water.
6:30 p.m. Golden Hour Photo Walk  Photographers, join Rosemary Rideout for a ramble from the visitor center in search of images to photograph during Coe's beautiful golden hour.
8 p.m. Evening Program – The History of Madrone Soda Springs  Teddy Goodrich, author of Names on the Land, will take you back in time, when Madrone Soda Springs was a working operation.

Wildflower Walks  Park volunteers will take you on a gentle stroll down Corral Trail, and they'll introduce you to the wildflowers along the way.
6:30 p.m. Golden Hour Photo Walk  Photographers, join Rosemary Rideout for a ramble from the visitor center in search of images to photograph during Coe's beautiful golden hour.

10 a.m. China Hole Hike  Libby Vincent will be your guide on a moderately strenuous 10-mile hike to historic Madrone Soda Springs and the China Hole swimming hole. Bring water, lunch, and maybe a swimming suit.
8 p.m. Evening Program – The Birds of Coe Park  Barbara Bessey and Kevin Gilmartin will help you learn how to identify Coe Park birds by sight and by sound.

Wildflower Walks  Park volunteers will take you on a gentle stroll down Corral Trail, and they'll introduce you to the wildflowers along the way.

10 a.m. Betsy Crowder Memorial Hike (Hunting Hollow Entrance)  Join Don Savant on a strenuous 13-mile (2600-foot elevation gain) exploration of the park's southern reaches.  Bring snacks, lunch, water and lots of energy. May 3
9 a.m. Discovery Horse Ride (Coyote Creek Entrance)  Bring your own horse and learn about the history of the area.  Reservations are required.  Call Chere at 408-683-2247 or Kitty at 408-842-6215 to sign up and for more information.
10 a.m. Middle Ridge, Fish Trail Loop  Libby Vincent will lead ths moderate 6.5-mile hike over Pine Ridge and along the top of Middle Ridge, coming back in along the Fish Trail. Bring lunch and water.
8 p.m. Evening Program – Reptiles of Coe  Mason Hyland will introduce the many species of reptiles that live in the park, and will discuss their ecology and conservation along with a demonstration on safe handling techniques.

Wildflower Walks  Park volunteers will take you on a gentle stroll down Corral Trail, and they'll introduce you to the wildflowers along the way.

10 a.m. Pacheco Creek Hike (Dowdy Ranch Entrance)  Join Don Savant on a moderately strenuous (5 or 8 mile) hike from the newly opened visitor center at Dowdy Ranch on the east side of the park. You'll visit "Hole-in-the-Rock", a delightful cascade and swimming hole on Pacheco Creek. If time allows, you'll visit Burra Burra Peak on the return leg. Bring good footwear, lunch, lots of water, swimsuit, and your sense of adventure. For more information call the park at 408-779-2728 or email donsavant@yahoo.com.
10 a.m. Skills for the Natural World  Join Mike Meyer for this 2-3 hour hands-on tour. You'll move into the flow of the woods practicing and learning techniques perfected by the Native Americans.
8 p.m. Evening Astronomy Program  Ranger John Verhoeven and volunteer Darryl Dubois will take you along the Monument Trail to point out constellations and discoveries in the night sky.

10 a.m. Ecology Hike  Winslow Briggs will lead you on a 5-mile exploratory ecology hike. The hike will last about 4 hours. Bring water and lunch.

10 a.m. Jackson Canyon/Grizzly Gulch Loop (Hunting Hollow Entrance)  Join Mike Meyer on this beautiful and strenuous 8-10 mile hike up Jackson Canyon via the Grapevine Spring Trail.
8 p.m. Evening Program – The History of Madrone Soda Springs  Teddy Goodrich, author of Names on the Land, will take you back in time, when Madrone Soda Springs was a working operation.

Wildflower Walks  Park volunteers will take you on a gentle stroll down Corral Trail, and they'll introduce you to the wildflowers along the way.
1 p.m. Kids' Adventure Hike  Don Savant will share stories about the wonders of nature on a leisurely family hike. Expect to see wildflowers and bring water and snacks.
8 p.m. Evening Program – Wonders of Coe Park  Don Savant will show you slides and examples of Coe Park's finest features, and you can help with fun skits, songs, and stories. Kids are especially invited to attend.

Memorial Day Wildflower Walks  Park volunteers will take you on a gentle stroll down Corral Trail, and they'll introduce you to the wildflowers along the way.

10 a.m. Four Seasons of Coe  Marlene Testaguzza will take you on a walk through the park discussing the seasonal changes and interactions between plants and animals.
8 p.m. Astronomy Program   Join Ranger John Verhoeven as he takes you along the Monument Trail to point out constellations and discoveries of the night sky.
